Vina Lustado residental desinger working for two decades for other companys, when decided to found her own business with the aim of designing sustainable and efficient buildings.
Lustado finally put into practice what she preached: she designed a private house built on the footprint of a 8"⤫ 20" trailer, a self-sufficient miracle that is only 140 square feet.
After being disappointed with the big corporations, Lustado moved to Ventura, California in 2000, where she joined a company which designed sustainable buildings. She worked here in the next few years. In the meantime, she learned many things about sustainability, but environmental considerations have not played an important role either here.
Lustado traveled to South America, where she spent three months. After she returned home, the housing crisis broke out. "We did not have to do a lot of work," she said, "so I decided to take things in my own hands and start my own business with projects I believed in."
In 2010, Sol Haus Design was established. "First, I had to convince my customers that they needed less, not more. People spend a lot of money instead of asking themselves what quality life means to them?"
